9 Qualities of Leadership

OXCEL focuses on recognizing and assessing leadership competencies and capabilities based on our 9 Qualities of Leadership (Leading and Developing Others, Developing Capability and Capacity, Making Sense of Complexity and Ambiguity, Leading Change, Ethics, Integrity, Influencing, Ceremony, and Handling Cultural Diversity). OXCEL Certifications are then awarded upon successful assessment.

Learning events organized by OXCEL in the past have included Continuing Professional Development Leadership seminars (CPD), CEO Talks, Networking Events and Conferences. The events organized by OXCEL will vary according to region, enrolment and demand. Not all regions will organize a full programme of their own events, and in some cases there may be no events at all. Attendance at OXCEL events is not compulsory for assessment and non-attendance does not place the candidate at any disadvantage in the assessment process since alternative assessment options can be offered in the form of project papers and extended essays (see details below). In addition, learning events from other providers can be integrated into assessment at the request of the candidate, but again this is not compulsory. Candidates can also apply portfolio credit towards all awards by means of APEL assessment.

OXCEL (UK) certification

Professional certification from OXCEL allows members to show and identify themselves as having met the required criteria for the various levels of leadership both to their peers and business associates. OXCEL awards are classified as certificates and diplomas and are conferred by OXCEL as an independent British professional association and certification body.

OXCEL Certification leads to the following awards:

  • Certificate of OXCEL
  • Associate Diploma of OXCEL
  • Graduate Diploma of OXCEL
  • Postgraduate Diploma of OXCEL
  • Fellow Diploma of OXCEL

In addition, OXCEL appoints Professorial Fellows as a special category of holders of the Fellow Diploma.

A description of each award and its requirements is given below. Where candidates have leadership experience in the public or voluntary sectors rather than in business their award may be re-designated as being in Management rather than Business Administration.

Usually, the OXCEL Certification is awarded jointly with a reciprocal overseas (non-UK) degree awarded by European-American University. The French VAE law allows European-American University to recognize non-degree awards such as OXCEL Certifications directly for degree credit, without additional requirements. The joint award programme is as follows:

  • Associate Diploma of OXCEL – Associate degree awarded by European-American University
  • Graduate Diploma of OXCEL – BBA degree awarded by European-American University
  • Postgraduate Diploma of OXCEL – MBA degree awarded by European-American University
  • Fellow Diploma of OXCEL – DBA degree awarded by European-American University

Further information about the status of European-American University is given below:

The certificates and diplomas of OXCEL are mapped to the levels of UNESCO’s International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED, 2011 edition) for ease of international comparison of standards.

The Fellow Diploma of OXCEL may also be awarded on an honorary basis.

Commencing 2021, OXCEL has also appointed select Fellow Diploma holders by invitation only as Professorial Fellows in recognition of their life and career achievements, whereby they receive Professorial Fellowship of OXCEL alongside appointment to the Professorial Fellowship of EAU. These candidates must be qualified with excellent knowledge and skills, and a highly credible figure in Leadership with a proven record. The appointed Professors must be able to contribute in promoting OXCEL and EAU, and at any time willing to speak on behalf of OXCEL/EAU when invited. They make an annual financial contribution as part of their commitment.

OXCEL Certification is designed to be self-directed, but every candidate is assigned a mentor who can offer support and advice via email on completing the requirements to a satisfactory level.

An option for the experienced candidate is to address some or all of the award requirements through a portfolio of achievement reflecting prior learning and experience. Details of this process are given here:
