Graduate Diploma – Leadership qualities for assessment in the Achievement Portfolio

1. Leading and Developing Others
Present evidence as for the Associate Diploma but with groups of 10 or more people for a minimum of 12 months. Evidence should show the development of individuals through individual development plans and appraisal. The work of the group should show more complexity and allow some choice of action.

2. Developing Capability and Capacity
As for the Associate Diploma but candidates should provide one example of preparing for a favourable change and one example of preparing for an unfavourable change. The possible impact of the change is likely to be more significant than at Associate Diploma level.

3. Making Sense of Complexity and Ambiguity
Present evidence showing how you have made sense of complex and ambiguous issues for a larger group of 10 or more people. Include a description of the issues and the strategies you developed and employed. The impact is likely to have been greater than that prevailing in the Associate Diploma. Reflect on the issues and comment on the impact your actions had on the people concerned.

4. Leading Change
Present evidence of leading change in groups of 10 or more people. The changes are likely to be more significant than at Associate Diploma level. The evidence should illustrate the issues giving rise to the change and illustrate the issues and describe the situation following the change. Reflect on the handling of the change and comment on what you might do differently next time.

5. Ethics
Present evidence about a decision you have taken based on ethical principles that has impacted groups of 10 or more people. The evidence should illustrate the issues giving rise to the decision and the consequences of the decision. Reflect on the decision and comment on its outcome and the implications for staff development.

6. Integrity
Present evidence which describes how you have demonstrated your integrity in the past in circumstances which were important for a larger group of 10 or more people. Reflect on the situations and comment on the impact your behaviour had on the people concerned.

7. Influencing
Candidates should give an example of how they have influenced someone inside the organization and someone outside the organization with the result that the organization received a significant benefit in each case. Reflect on the events and write a report on what influencing tactics were used and how effective they were.

8. Ceremony
Candidates should provide evidence of 2 ceremonies they conduct. This is likely to involve larger groups of people for periods of time up to 1 hour such as welcoming official visitors. Reflect and write a report on the importance of ritual and ceremony in your organization.

9. Handling Cultural Diversity
Present evidence on how you have handled issues of cultural diversity affecting your organization. The issues may be internal or external but will be more significant in their potential impact than at Associate Diploma level. The evidence should demonstrate communication, training & coaching, feedback, objective setting, and monitoring, and also the development of training programmes and standard procedures.
